Community Grants

The Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) will award community grants at a luncheon on Friday, April 26, 2019. 5 nonprofit organizations will be selected to present  a 5 minute presentation describing their organization and how they support youth programs that promote education and leadership development that serve as a preventative measure to end homelessness.

Grant applications will be accepted from January 15, 2019 through February 14, 2019.  All applications will be evaluated by an evaluation committee comprised of Rotary LA5 members.  Site visits will be conducted for the top finalists.  Site visits will be arranged between February 18, 2019 – March 8, 2019.  The top 5 Finalists will be invited to give a 5-minute presentation on Friday, April 26, 2019.

The presentation should be made by a high-level executive from the organization (Executive Director (ED), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and/or Founder).  Rotary LA5 members (Members) will text vote for the nonprofit they feel is the best qualified based on the presentation. The grant pool will be divided based on the votes received.  All presenting organizations will receive a grant (minimum of 5% of the pool of funds up to a maximum of 60% of the pool).  Grants will be awarded for program expenses only (including overhead allocations), no management and general or fundraising expenses will be funded.  Last year $73,000 was given and the year before $64,500 was given.  In addition we will encourage guest attendees to donate to the organizations.

In order to have a bigger impact on Downtown Los Angeles, we are focusing on one annual giving theme selected by the President of the club.  Our focus will be on organizations that support youth programs that promote education and leadership development that serve as preventative measures to end homelessness.

LA5’s dynamic membership enjoys volunteer opportunities with our non-profit partners. We welcome your thoughts on how we can get involved with your organization.

The 5 nonprofit organizations selected will be notified on March 18, 2019.  Luncheons for our members to meet the nonprofits will be held on April 5, 2019 “Paul Harris Luncheons”.
