Al Poirier, Chief Deputy, Emergency Operations Los Angeles Fire Department 

​Al is responsible for command, coordination, and oversight of all Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services line functions of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Bio

Al Poirier was born in Los Angeles and has spent his entire life in Southern California. He has been with the Los Angeles Fire Department since 1986, and has served as a Firefighter, an Apparatus Operator, Captain I, Captain II, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Chief. Chief Poirier has worked across the City in a variety of assignments and is a veteran of several large scale emergency events including the 1992 Civil Disturbance and the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. He was a member of the FEMA US&R Team (CATF-1) in Los Angeles for over 20 years—having deployed several times with the team including to the WTC event in NYC on 9/11, and to the Gulf Hurricane Disaster in 2005.

In his current role as the Chief Deputy of Emergency Operations, Chief Poirier is responsible for command, coordination, and oversight of all Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services line functions of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Chief Poirier has several certifications in ICS, Hazardous Materials, and US&R. His formal education includes a Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Services Management, and a Master's Degree in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He has also completed several executive level courses at the National Fire Academy, Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, the University of Southern California (USC), and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).

​Al is married and he and his wife reside in Santa Clarita, California. They have four children (3 girls and 1 boy) and one grand-daughter. Al enjoys a game of golf now and then. The family enjoys outdoor activities and watching the kids' sports teams – and they all consider themselves fans of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
